Rocca Bianca

Rocca Bianca – Pinot Grigio Valdadige

Rocca Bianca is an exclusive brand line designed by Montresor, a renowned winery operating in the Veneto region of Italy. The Montresor family finds its roots in France. The count Claude de Montresor played a prominent historical role under the reign of Cardinal Richelieu and took part to the political struggles of his epoch, as a prominent advisor of Duke d’Orleans, cousin of the king of France.

The Montresor family is also mentioned in a famous tale written by novelist Edgar A. Poe, ‘The Amontillado Cask’, where a member of the Montresor family is described as a fine wine connoisseur, with an excellent palate. In the XVI century a branch of the family moved from Chateau Montresor, in the Loire valley, to Italy, more precisely to Verona and Veneto, where they acquired feuds and vineyard land.

When Giacomo Montresor, in the second half of XIX century, started selling estate-grown wines under his family brand, he could not imagine one century later his wines would have reached worldwide recognition. Nowadays his successors bring on the family tradition for quality viticulture in the Veneto region.

Rocca Bianca is a brand label appositely conceived and designed for the US market. The line up of traditional Veneto wines, red and white, spring from 100 Ha of estate vineyards scattered throughout Valpolicella, Lake of Garda and Valdadige. Annual production totals 2 millions bottles. In addition to this, the Montresor family recently started a notable partnership with MC2 Precision-Farming Company (www.precision-farming.com), a highly advanced viticultural project consisting in vineyard maps drawn up from satellite data, representing indexes such as vineyard vigor, hydrologic stress, sugar accumulation and total acidity in the grapes, vine per vine.

Most helpful and significant findings emerge from the data collected by the satellite, referring to plant vigor, potential alcohol and aromatic ripeness of every single plot of vines. These analyses are employed to define harvest strategies and to optimize the growing techniques for every parcel of the estate vineyards. The Rocca Bianca Valdadige Doc Pinot Grigio is widely recognized as one of the finest exemplars distributed in the US market, thanks the cool climate and the gravelly soils of the Valdadige Doc area, beneficially influenced by the neighboring Lake of Garda.
