The architecturally impressive Trabucchi estate (www.trabucchivini.it) is located in Val d’Illasi, easternmost reaches of the Valpolicella / Amarone appellation, bordering with the Soave Classico area. Sitting on top of the San Colombano hill at 300 mts altitude, the family villa and cellars tower over the Illasi valley, surrounded and protected by olive trees and cypresses.
Estate vineyards are split into five separate units: Monte Tenda, Binelunghe, San Colombano, Castello and Cereolo, with altitude ranging from 150 mt in Cereolo to 290 mt in Castello. With the exception of Monte Tenda, planted with the white-berry Garganega grape, all the other parcels house the classic red-berry varieties native of Valpolicella: Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Negrara, Molinara, Dindarella, Oseleta.
The winemaking tradition at Trabucchi dates back to 1925, when ancestor Marco Trabucchi purchased the estate and the first plot of vineyards. The domaine was later inherited by Alberto – a well recognized lawyer – who subsequently passed it to Giuseppe, a lawyer himself, who is currently running the winery with passion and dedication, investing new capitals to enhance the quality of the estate bottled wines.
Since 1993 the vineyards have been managed following the provisions of biologic agriculture, therefore Trabucchi is certified organic by AIAB [Associazione Italiana per l'Agricoltura Biologica]. The winery is equipped with six different drying lofts: all built in strategic positions to capture the cool breezes blowing through the hills in the fall and winter season, they make for the perfect environment where to lay down red grapes for natural air-drying, thanks to moderate humidity and constant temperature. The resulting Valpolicella, Amarone and Recioto combine structure and balance, exotic ripeness and longevity.
