La Cassacia

La Cassacia

About

Giovanni and Elena Rava and their children Margherita and Marcello are the heart and force of La Cassacia. They have been working together in a life driven by respect for their land and heritage since they overtook the winery/vineyards in 2001.

La Casaccia’s vineyard culture strengthens the natural and human-made biodiversity surrounding every vineyard area in Cella Monte. Indigenous woods and nut and fruit trees (including epic wild cherries) grow wild everywhere around the cultivated landscape. The plethora of brush and forest acts as a safe harbor for bugs (leafhoppers, hornets) and animals that love to terrorize vineyards canopy growth (like deer) as well as others that swoop in once the berries are ripe (birds, wild boar) that end up doing their evolutionary duty of helping to propagate the seeds of the grapes they eat.

Their traditionally crafted wines come from vines on soft, stark white chalk with layers of eroded sandstone. They are lifted, complex, and filled with the humble yet exuberant character of la familia.

The underground cellar of this estate is entirely carved into sedimentary “Pietra da Cantoni” stone, which you see above ground in all Cella Monte’s buildings. Their cellar was recently declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
